This weekend I had the privilege of shooting my SIL's little bro's senior pictures with my SIL... it was so much fun to work with them!!

Here are a few of my favorites from the shoot.

Photoshop Tutorial: Contrast

Most of the time, one of the first things I do when I open a picture in photoshop is play with curves. This morning my sister-in-law and I did a little photoshoot with her brother Scott.

Here is one of the images I got that's SOOC (straight-out-of-camera)

He's workin' on his pensive look there....

So first step is to open up the picture in photoshop.

Second, open cuves (pc: ctrl-m) or the long way is: Image --> Adjustments --> Curves.

A dialog box will then pop up with a graph in the middle. The graph has a diagonal line running from bottom left to top right.

Click your mouse in the very center of the grid. (128,128)

Then click your mouse halfway between the center of the grid and the bottom left. (64,64)

Then use your down arrow to lower the second click you just did. This will create an "s" curve, increasing your contrast; make your darks, darker, and your lights, lighter.

The only thing I did to this shot was increase the contrast.

It's a subtle change. I like how it get's rid of that cloudy feel. This also helps give black & white's more dimension.

I've been away for a little bit, but I'm working on editing a bunch of photos...

Here's a little sneak peak of baby {J}. His mama and I went to high school together. I love that our little ones are only a month apart!! He is so sweet and adorable.

Oregon Vacation

We went to Oregon this past weekend to visit family. While we were there I took these shots... one of my handsome hubby, and the other of my darling daughter. I love them.

We had just put lotion all over her... including her hair. It stayed like this for quite a while.

{b} and his family are neighbors of ours. His parents came over a few days ago needing some senior shots of him. Twenty minutes later we were on our way to the state park...

I love shooting families... and this was a great little family to shoot.

Little "B" is 2 and such a cutie!!

He's such a good big brother to baby "A"...

who was so small!! I love his little baby stretch here...

He wasn't exactly happy to leave his mama's arms...

Or his daddy's for that matter...

Black and Whites

I was checking out some things on DPS (digital photography school) and found this article by Natalie Norton. It's got some great info about converting photos to black and whites.

I tried it out on this picture of Maria.... here it is in color, which I love:

and here it is a little warmed up:

I'm a fan of them all.... but that could be because I'm just a little bit biased.
